MEDICINE WOMAN MEMORY

i come from a line of medicine women. on nights of a full moon like tonight, i am taken back to the river in my father's hometown, where my grandmother once took me and where my female ancestors appear in my visions, wearing red dresses--as if i was part of a memory.

i see the woman with the red hair always lingering on my left side who my father later identified as one of his aunts, whom he never met yet whose mere mention was suddently our introduction. she was one of my three paternal great aunts who were known to gather and sell healing herbs. i see them with long braided hair, huddled around the kitchen table, wrapping bundles of herbs.

i feel their blood running through mine. i know what they know. and under the full moon, the divine feminine connects us.

DREAMING OF A GYPSET LIFE

i finally found a reasonably priced used copy of gypset style. now dreaming of gypset travel, which is scheduled for release on december 4th.

julia chaplin coined the term gypset (gypsy+jet set), an emerging group of artists, musicians, fashion designers, surfers, and bon vivants who lead semi-nomadic, unconventional lives and parlayed it into a fashion & accessories line and a best-selling book gypset style. her new book, gypset travel "delves into the glamorous yet casual lifestyle of these bohemian wanderers through intimate photography and first-person anecdotes."

on november 10-11, 2012, there will be a special event in los angeles, calling all americans who are interested in starting a new, non-violent political conversation. if you’re concerned about the over-influence of moneyed interests on american democracy, the underrepresentation of women in our political leadership, and if you have a transformational view of the world; if you are a woman who would consider running for office yourself, or a man or woman who could see yourself involved in a woman's campaign -- please join marianne williamson and others for a revolutionary weekend. we will create the blueprint for a new movement in american politics, unabashedly spiritual and unapologetically progressive, by which we can help right the teetering ship of american democracy.

MAIYET >> FASHION LUXURY FOR JUSTICE

i first came across maiyet in wsj magazine and saw social entreprenership on a whole new level. founded by social justice and human rights activist paul van zyl and daniel lubetzky, a trailblazer in using business to promote peace, maiyet is pioneering a new luxury by creating a fashion brand that celebrates rare artisanal skills, while sustaining peace and promoting economic stablity and prosperity in the artisans' communities.

about the founders:
paul van zyl spent over 20 years working in human rights and transitional justice, first under archbishop desmond tutu as the executive secretary of south africa's truth commission and then as the co-founder of the international center for transitional justice. after winning the skoll award for social entrepreneurship and attending the world economic forum at davos, paul met daniel lubetzky, a pioneer in using business to promote peace.

they decide to co-found a company that would use the power of the market to allocate capital to peace. their hypothesis was that if they could source from and grow companies that had a stabilizing effect on their communities, they would be on their way.

paul and daniel believed that a fashion brand held the greatest opportunity, and the idea for what is now maiyet was born.
