when she was 11 years old, emilie jean traded her swatch watch for a berber bangle under a tent in the sahara desert. years later, she worked in the pre-columbian department at sotheby’s during the sale of the millicent rogers collection of navajo and zuni jewelry, and went on to work at the gem palace, in jaipur. all proved to be definitive experiences: the jewels and textiles of tribal cultures—shawls from the afghan-pakistani border region, rajasthani “poison rings”—are the focus of the collection she now sells by appointment only.
