MAAFA >> HONORING ANCESTORS

today people will be celebrating maafa and honoring their ancestors around the world. i will be joining this collective energy -- bowing to the light of my ancestors as they shine their light upon me.

after 30 long years, i finally reunited with my cousin who i have always considered an older sister. we were neighbors until my family immigrated. shortly after, she got married and moved to new zealand with her new husband. they recently moved back to the philippines. we talked about how her return to the philippines, my other cousin's upcoming visit, dreams of my grandmother, and my desire to return home are no accidents. our conversations reminded me how strong and deep our shared bloodline runs through us. our motherland and our ancestors are calling.

today, patrick is celebrating maafa with his circle on a beach in san francisco to honor his ancestors who died on the passage from africa to this land and those bound to slavery upon arrival and by birth. people will be celebrating and honoring their ancestors around the world. i will be joining this collective energy -- bowing to the light of my ancestors as they shine their light upon me.

why i chose these images:
diamonds are not my preference -- for various reasons. i am always drawn to tribal bib necklaces, and i plan to wear one at my wedding. i was planning on writing a post, featuring tribal bib necklaces as inspiration for my wedding, then patrick told me about maafa, and i knew these images and the entire spread in town & country reflected this celebration.
